A core element of any building's fire strategy.

Our operatives are BMTRADA certified in Fire Door Inspection, Maintenance & Installation.

Fire Door
INSPECTIONS

Fire doors are designed and manufactured to stop the spread of fire and smoke. They provide essential protection as a core element of the fire strategy and fabric of any building. They save lives and help to protect the structure of the building.

It’s essential that every fire door is assessed to ensure they are always fit for purpose. To ensure they will perform correctly in the event of a fire, fire doors must comply with The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 which stipulates that the person responsible for the building (Duty Holder) has a legal requirement to check all fire doors regularly and ensure a suitable maintenance and inspection plan is in place so that all relevant equipment is kept in an efficient state and fit for purpose.

Fire Door Inspections Include:

  • Door frame

  • Hinges

  • Door closer (self-closing devices)

  • Door leaf

  • Fire safety signage

  • Gaps around the doors and threshold gaps

  • Glazing (vision panels)

  • Any hold-open devices

  • Seals

  • Ironmongery

  • Panic hardware devices

The fire door inspection carried out by DMI engineers will provide building end-users with a fully documented report against the required standard. Furthermore, the inspection will provide detailed information on the condition of the door in relation to the intended use and performance as specified and designed by the manufacturer. Our inspections are carried out as per the BM Trada guidance from a third-party accreditation. All our inspections are issued with an individual report which can be easily tied back to the door inspected. If necessary, we then suggest possible solutions, and these will be reviewed during any future inspections.

As a key component of an essential passive fire protection system, fire-doors must be in a condition suitable to enable proper function where fire and smoke can occur.

Fire Door
MAINTENANCE

It is crucial that fire door systems are maintained to the highest standards in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, or appropriate guidelines by a certified and accredited maintenance and installer.

As with any essential fire protection equipment, fire door-sets must be regularly checked to ensure they function correctly, are fit for purpose, and will operate as intended in the event of an emergency. Fire door maintenance should be treated in the same manner as testing other fire protection equipment.

Fire Door
INSTALLATION

Fire door installation can be a life or death responsibility and must be installed correctly by qualified engineers. Fire resistance capabilities can be seriously diminished if any aspect of the installation is not completed to the highest standards.

Our certified and accredited fire door installers have years of experience in fire door installation for a wide range of clients. You can be reassured in the knowledge that our work is of the highest standard. All the fire doors we install are fully certified and comply with British Standards and The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005.

COMPARTMENTATION

DMI can review the existing compartmentation and set out what actions are required to provide compliance with the current building layout and determined use. Any subsequent compartmentation issues can be remediated by DMI appointed partner and specialist who are accredited to Firas for sealing of penetrations, utilising approved manufacturer’s products.

DAMPERS

The engineers are trained to BESA fire damper training standard. When the reports are completed, it is an assurance that these dampers have been tested (14 point) by a specialist and the engineer that carried them out has signed these as an official document and that they are in a condition of use or will require to be replaced or repaired. The report will be issued based on the condition of the dampers. It would be the responsibility of the building owner or responsible person to have the works carried out for health & safety and insurance purposes.

DMI install wireless Smart Sensors on fire doors, making it easier to stay on top of your responsibilities for fire safety. These provide complete audit compliance monitoring via a front-end dashboard, complement annual engineering visits, provide door asset information per site and are always on and monitoring.

Smart Fire Door
MONITORING

Smart Sensors can provide feedback on the status of the door, including:

  • Fire door open/close

  • Fire door ajar

  • Indicate potential door problems (door closure adjustment/loose door fittings)

  • Cumulative door count

  • Local temperature and humidity (door swelling)

  • Door history (dates and times)

  • Local battery status
